(I) want snacks~
Us uni clique had a gathering/outing yesterday after class because M.Yi, thesuperette and William's birthdays fell in the past two weeks.
Oh, digressing a bit, my Magazine Journalism lecturer is so bloody archaic it's not even cute. He disapproves of using 'one' in phrases like, "One has to first marvel at how the human ear can endure the volume of the music." and the words 'albeit' and 'ponder' because 'one' is a very old way of addressing one's self, 'albeit' supposedly went obsolete in the 1600s - and why are we even using it? - and 'ponder' is a Singaporean expression.
WHAT?
'One' is a perfectly good and neutral way to address a person or entity in formal writings, and 'ponder' is an English word, no? What in the world made it Singaporean? It's not even Singlish! AND I LIKE USING 'ALBEIT'. It shows that I know my vocabulary, it makes me feel more intellectual, and words going obsolete is a very very sad thing, if you ask me. 'Albeit' has its uses, which is more than I can say for so many weird words that can be substituted with simpler words that mean the same thing. And people do still use 'albeit'! Stop being so stiff about language when we're not writing formal stuff and wake up and smell the 21st century. Seriously.
So, after class. We had a cake-cutting thing for the three birthday people because Zhenni made oreo cheesecake. It was YUM.
Yumyumyumyumyumyumyumyum~
After the eating and fooling around taking photographs with our cameras and the ones on the iMac (we were in the Mac lab), we headed out of school for lunch at Ajisen.
lovryu, brace yourself. THIS IS FOR YOU.
My Spicy Cha Shu Ramen.
Hmm~ Spicy stuff is YUM.
Funny story, my food was the first few that came but the waitress told me that the 'spicy' would need to wait a while. I was like, uh, wasn't my ramen here already? Five minutes later she came with a small saucer with what looked like spices and minced meat fried in chilli and said that it's the 'spicy'.
Confused silence. Then, HAHAHA my ramen was just Cha Shu Ramen until the Spicy came to turn it into Spicy Cha Shu Ramen after I mixed it in LOLOLOLOL!!! (Yeah, the waitress was from China so she's not really good at English which explains the weird way she calls the chilli bits.)
There was a bit of a debate after lunch because the we intended to go cycling at East Coast Park but it was late into the afternoon already and all the time spent travelling wouldn't leave us enough time to cycle if those who live further away wanted to reach home in time for dinner. So I suggested watching a movie, but William started angsting that we couldn't go along with the original plan and it was one-third his celebration, yeah? Then I called my work-friends and found out it was drizzling at ECP so that totally killed the cycling plan and William decided not to come along for movies. So it was just six of us (M.Yi, thesuperette, Y.Ting, Zhenni, SJ and me) watching (500) Days of Summer.
Then a dispute happened between M.Yi and her (utter arse of a) boyfriend about watching the movie with us VS. with him and blahblahblah... She got frustrated and decided to go home so... It only left the five of us.
Yep, despite my lack of enthusiasm for movies without a happy ending (I blame Disney influencing me with all the happily-ever-afters), I watched (500) Days of Summer. And it was good. Even with all the heartache. Indie movies are the best. Better than Hollywood stuff. Yeah.
It's just. The movie tells us right at the beginning it's not a happy ending. But the guy didn't know of all the sadness he was going to go through and was throwing himself blindly and wholeheartedly into the relationship and believing with every fibre of his being in the idea of 'true love'. My heart just broke into smaller and smaller bits as the movie went on. And yet I can't help grinning at their happier moments together and feeling so so happy because it's supposed to be like that in a relationship - giving your all and enjoying the present while it's still good even if it may not last.
I sort of don't like the girl, though. There were so many chances for her to come clean about things, how she felt, what she wanted, and save them both from all that angst but she didn't. Instead she takes and takes and takes from him just because she wanted a friend and felt attracted enough to him to justify herself. That's just so not on.
Ah, well. You've got to experience the bad ones before you get to a good one.

Date: 2009-10-17 03:49 am (UTC)We (well, my friends) brought up the subject about changing that lecturer for some other guy, but he is sort of the more (most?) experienced person when it comes to journalism since he was one for many many years (explanation for why he saw the "death" of 'obsolete'?) so, nope. Can't get rid of him =(
THE RAMEN WAS GOOD XD
And because it was spicy, IT WAS EVEN BETTER XD

Date: 2009-10-17 09:20 am (UTC)Aw, that's a pity. But although more experienced lecturers are good... If they're really old they can also be totally set in their ways and can't keep up with the changing atmosphere of the world. Or if they made mistakes during their career that no one pointed out to them, they might pass on those mistakes to you.
But it seems that it's going to be fine for you, you seem to have a firm "I don't believe everything the teacher's says" policy :D
Ahaha! Okay then :D I'm glad you're Ramen was so good. You like spicy food especially?

Date: 2009-10-17 09:55 am (UTC)I have a very firm 'I don't believe in anything anyone tells me' haha... I think it's leftover sentiments from my secondary school history teacher who told us right from the start to be sceptical about everything and anything we hear or read because we weren't there in person and things get lost through time and retelling of events.
I LOVE SPICY FOOD. Lots of food in Singapore are spicy and I'll miss out on many many good food if I can't take hot stuff. One very strong argument I use on my sister who don't eat anything spicy unless it's instant noodles. And she says instant noodles don't count =.=

Date: 2009-10-17 11:45 am (UTC)Looks great! Had to laugh about the spicy Cha Shu Ramen being Cha Shu Ramen with "mixed in spicy"... there's some irony somewhere in here, I'm sure ;)
Have a great weekend, Chii!

It was a non-bake cake so it should be easier to try.
HAHA I GREW UP ON DISNEY. I CAN SING 80% OF THE SONGS OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD IF YOU WANTED ME TO. And some of the dialogues, too.
