It was Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day today!
I met up with thesuperette, Y.Ting and Shereen at The Cathay for ice-cream and can I just say, the queue was bloody long. The internal layout of the shopping mall is circular so it was an "eye-opener" for me, who don't really step into shopping malls (or just any place where there will be LOTS OF PEOPLE, because crowds give me anxiety attacks and headaches), to see the queue going around the walkway for TWO LEVELS.
Oh, well. There was free stuff to be had, after all.
So Shereen and I joined the queue (which actually moved pretty fast), and thesuperette joined us a while later, and Y.Ting came just in time for our second round of free scoops. Jacq was late so she skipped the free ice-cream and we met her for lunch at ASTONS Specialities instead. Oh, well. Maybe next year, Jacq?
Anyway, I had Chocolate Fudge Brownie both times, and it was YUM. Anything chocolate makes me happy, anyway. But but! Fudge and brownie! *Happy sigh*
For the three times we were in the queue (our third time was just to keep Y.Ting company while she waited for her second scoop), Shereen I were fangirling (with quite a bit of flailing on my part) about television shows and movies because I told her to watch Velvet Goldmine after seeing her Facebook status about the glam-rock era. And, um, YAY SHE LOVED IT.
And and and. She watched Across the Universe! OMG. We ended up fangirling over the imagery of the film and the soundtrack and the EPIC WIN because the cast covered The Beatles' songs that were used in the film (my favourites are tied between Hey Jude and Because because I love the melody of the former and the way the latter gave me chills when I heard it the first few times).
And she has got to be the only person I know in RL who watches Doctor Who and Torchwood, although (sadly) not as fanatically as I do. More fangirling ensued over the brilliance of BBC productions, plots, writings, and just UK shows in general because there aren't many US productions that are able to cover so many facets of science, humanity, dry humour and sombreness in single episodes without overwhelming or confusing the viewer.
Well, it wasn't that there aren't good US shows, because we then fangirled over Chuck, CSI and lots of other shows we were babbling off then that I can't remember now.
Finally! A RL friend who understands television shows the way I do! Woots!

In other news, I have one more thing to cross off my 2009 list!
Journey, by w-inds.!
I have no idea how I was even able to fall so far behind one of my few and very selected Japanese fandoms.
I've got the last copy at the Gramophone that I was at today, so I'll have to live with the slight scratches on the casing and the less-than-perfect condition of the lyrics booklet =(
At least it came with Mandarin tranlated lyrics!
I couldn't resist taking a photo of this.
I just find Ryuichi's 'V' action so cute XD
Am listening to the album now, and how in the world did I manage to live so long without catching up with their music? Oh, right. There was WaT, my other fandombecause Wentz and Teppei are so married that I don't even need slash/shonen-ai goggles to see their EPIC LOVE.
Oh! I figured out what made me feel that Midnight was different from the rest of the episodes from Doctor Who series 4. Where most of series 4 dealt more with humanity and showing how it impacts the case and circumstances in their respective episodes, Midnight used the case and situation to explain and demonstrate the fragility of individual thought, the susceptibility of humanity to manipulation, and the quick willingness to abandon logic and baring almost-animalistic hostility in the face of danger and fear.
Simply put: telling the story using humanity, VS. using the story to show human behaviour. And also? It's a must-watch episode because other than the brilliant plot, the acting of every cast member and not just the main character was SUPERB.
