RE: Valentine's Day
ともだちはじゅうぶんである。
Tomodachi wa jyubun de aru.
Friends are enough.
Remember this, where I complained about my high heels and followed it up with a proclamation that I'll "never wear them ever again, unless absolutely necessary"?
My injured toes, the godawful heels, and the last one with a foreign foot?
That belongs to the birthday girl.
I had blisters from the the one time I wore it for the second time ever a few days ago, and I was thus finding ways to escape needing to wear heels. But! I was meeting up with a few secondary school friends on Valentine's Day for a birthday "outing" for SL, and they wanted me to wear something nice. My choices were to go buy a skirt and then wear my sneakers, or to forgo the skirt and buy a shorter pair of heels to go with my jeans.
Now, I don't have a problem with shopping occasionally (although I do think that I'm the only female in this modern age who detest the idea behind shopping), it is shopping itself that has a problem with me. Particularly, last minute shopping, which I did the night before we were going to meet up. I know it's against the Law of Shopping to do what I did, but like I said, I hate the idea of shopping. Therefore, I don't shop regularly.
The skirts in my neighbourhood shopping mall were all work/office skirts, and even if some did look passable, they were too long. Then came the heels-shopping. My blisters from Wednesday were healing and there was finally new skinwhich tore when I tried on some heels. Super OUCH. I could not continue trying on the heels until I bought a box of band-aid.
Suffice to say, my house will be well-equipped for all band-aid-requiring disasters for the rest of 2009, if one requires a new band-aid everyday.
And I digressed. The point is, my last minute shopping was unfruitful, and so I wore those godawful heels again. My feet felt weird when I got home at the end of the day.
Anyway. Our present for SL this year was a makeover package and a photoshoot, from which she can choose to print out six photographs.
SL with her eye make-up and fake eyelashes all done up.
I must admit that during the process of her having make-up put on, I got bored in between snapping photographs of her incomplete makeover. I suppose that explained those multiple shots of my heels. Hee.
I caught the flash from the photographer's own camera twice throughout the whole photoshoot. I either have pretty good timing, or very bad ones.
I liked those shiny circles. Something about the dark shine and reflected colours appealed to me. It's... I don't know what it is. A divider curtain of sorts? It was hanging on the inside of the changing room, which was just a plain piece of curtain drawn around and partitioning one small corner of the store.
Hilarity was abound during the photoshoot, because SL couldn't understand what the terms the photographer was saying meant. But there were lots of pretty photos at the end of it. So I suppose it was worth her... effort? It was kind of fun in a way...
After settling all the stuff with the photographs, we went to the coffee connoisseur. I had no idea that they had decent meals, because all along I've thought that all they had were various coffees and desserts. Now I know better.
Clockwise from top left
Shrooms Bite: It's like a cup of crisp toast with shrooms. It was awesome.
Banana Salmon Exotica: The birthday girl's. The sauce for the mashed potatoes at the bottom is different that what one would expect to pair with it, but it's nice nonetheless.
Chicken & Turkey Bacon Lasagne: mine =)
Beef Mozza-Tofu: It may seem as if beef, tofu and cheese don't go together, but they dovery well.
I didn't manage to take photographs of everyone's order, but those looked delicious enough. At least to me.
Tell me that doesn't make you salivate. Meh, I won't believe you anyway.
There were so many things I love about it. The cheese, the meat, the softened pasta...
Yum.
The "cake" we ordered. It's more like a pudding, though.
Still, it was pretty good.
I was trying to get an "artistic" shot. Could have been better.
Although it was only a small group of us (six in total), it was still fun to see everyone again, especially BH, since she's from one of my closer group of friends but she stays so far from me, and we're all too busy all the time to meet up when it's not during a long holiday. Then of course, there's the birthday girl, who lives just a 10-minute walk from me but we barely saw each other since school started again. Woe is me.
But anyway. We had a great time, and personally, I quite enjoyed it. I'm sure SL did too, despite the strangeness and stress of the photoshoot. And truthfully, those were what was important.
See, evidence that having a significant other isn't a prerequisite for having a good time on Valentine's Day. So there.

This looks like a real nice birthday dinner you had :D
I love the pics you took. Especially the one of your friend during the photoshoot (against the photographer's flash). That's an interesting one.
BTW,... you made me hungry now *stomach is growling*
(and I have another two hours to work *sigh*)
Have a great week, sweetie!!!

Dinner was good. It's making me want to go back and try the other stuff on the menu.
I made myself hungry too, so I went and made iced coffee. Instant, though =(
Have a great week too =)
