Catching up with LJ (1/?)
わたしはさんがつのこどもです。
Watashi wa sangatsu no kodomo desu.
I'm a child of March. ^_^
It has always seemed like lots of people are born in March. March-born people are awesome! *Points at self*
Happy 21st to my oldest friend, and the first H.En I ever knew =)
And happy 15th, spilled_notes! This is like, what, the third time I wished you a happy birthday? Haha...
And this is where I start to catch up with all the things I wanted to post on LJnot in chronological order of them happening, though.

MARCH 19
I was rushing through the deadlines for my public relations and journalism modules' deadlines since two days before this and this was the end result:
A very messy desk.
The calendar on my laptop desktop? I Photoshopped it into the wallpaper just so I can see my assignment schedule in one place, all the time. And because I'm too lazy to search through my papers for the separate schedules.
The pile of books, notebooks and papers just never seem to stop growing.
The Mountain.
Strewn bits of paper, external hard drive, pencil case, old cellphone, wires and earphones.
Because there isn't enough proof out there regarding the extremes of my messiness.
I should be appalled and yet, strangely, I am amused.
For my journalism module, we were supposed to submit our portfolio/weekly journal, which basically meant writing in the answers to our weekly current affairs quizzes and the discussion question answers to our weekly readings. I couldn't be bothered to buy a new notebook to keep notes on things I probably won't look at again after completing this assignment, so I dug out an old A5 exercise book from my secondary school days and gave it a makeover.
BEFORE.
Yes, I blocked out my name. The Internet is never safe!
(Diligentia, Ingenium, Dexteritas. My first contact with Latin was through the school motto.
And yes, I know my keyboard is dirty.)
AFTER.
"Pimp your notebook!" with gift wrap and clear plastic book wrap!
It was so pretty, and I was so proud with myself. =D
BLANK.
COMPLETE.
Because I was a lazy arse and left practically everything to the last minute, I spent one night flipping through my actual notebook and browsed the LJ community I created for our "clique" for all the necessary things required to be included in the portfolio (especially the quiz answers I've posted there). I then spent that night and half of the next day writing down everything.
My hands were killing me when I was done.
Still, the end result was so neat and organised and pretty that I forgot to berate myself for procrastinating and bringing this Almost!Catastrophe onto myself.

MARCH 13
Warning! Geeky stuff ahead!
R.I.P.
My old cellphone, with a screen so screwed it was blurring up and I couldn't see what I was texting to people, nor what they had texted to me.
No, mother, the screen is goners, I can't text anymore (which is a free service that substituted calling people up, and it meant that I have no actual payment for talktime) and it's not worth the money repairing a cellphone of this age and at this level of hardware depreciation. Therefore it's necessary to buy a new phone. And I have more than $5000 from my job in 2008 that I've hardly touched. I am not frivolous, which you are very aware of. Therefore, I deem the new expenditure *stamp* JUSTIFIED.
Anyway. That was the second cellphone I've bought, and the one that lasted longer than my first Nokia 6610i. Look! Even the layer of fake leather skin had worn away. I really do use things right to the end of their product life.
Yes, I admit that I am absolutely obsessed with Nokia. While Sony Ericsson has pretty phones that take much better photos, they tend to spoil rather quickly (as observed from my friends with SE cellphones), and Samsung and Motorola phones are barely user-friendly (then again, maybe it's just me). As for LG, the ones that are not smartphones look like toys, plus the airheads and the bimbos love them. I refuse to own a phone that links me to them. And I have no need for a smartphone at now, anyway.
Where was I? Oh, yes. I'm obsessed with Nokia.
Hello, Gorgeous!
Although it's a relatively new model, it's still quite basic with a mediocre camera and the usual texting and phone-calling stuff, with the addition of video-calling (which I won't ever use, anyway).
It's so new and shiny and pretty~ And so much thinner!
Yes, I like techy stuff. What of it?
(If anyone's curious, the wallpapers on my cellphone and laptop are from Pixelgirl Presents. There's quite a bit of graphics stuff available there, and although I don't have an iPhone, I use the wallpapers for it on my cellphone. Nothing's impossible with a bit of Photoshopping!)
The biggest plus with my new cell? A microUSB Data Cable. No more fiddling and adjusting the microSD card adapter whenever I wanted to transfer tunes or photos. I LOVE IT.
Also? It comes with earphones. My old pair that came with my iPod nano got stolen when I left it in the iMac lab last trimester and no one bothered to check with the staff before appropriating it as his/her own (may the thief burn in everlasting hell), then the Philips pair I bought after the incident screwed up and there was no sound from the left ear bud (such a shame. The sound quality was so good, I heard things from songs I had no idea were in them), then the Creative pair I borrowed from my sister screwed up too and there was a very distinct lack of sound from the right ear bud, and finally, VDay crisis (nice, I shall just call him that) bought me a Sony pair and I don't want to use it for fear that it would make him think that we have a chance together (or whatever disillusions he might have).
I gave the pair from VDC to my sister.
Where was I? Yes, earphones. Granted, the quality isn't good, and it's in-ear, which is annoyingly uncomfortable and rather unhealthy for the ears to be under such noise and stress at this close a distance.
But still! Better than nothing!
The only bad thing was the continued extinction of the old-school Snake game. It was simple and fun, and I liked it! I would even make do with Snake II! I don't want the new Snake III! It makes the phone lag and I can't see the full map all at once! =(
Oh well. At least there is still Sudoku. Better than nothing.
